It’s Move-mber! Right time to remind me that I should keep going and moving forward in lettering practice. I admit that the posts of many letterers left me at awe and makes me feel like my work is not as extraordinary like them. But I have to remind myself that them too were once a novice and an amateur, and behind those perfect IG photo is a file of scrap papers and used brush pens of several practices.
I just need to keep on believing – I have the skill!
So this month I decided to post a single word everday in brush lettering or brush calligraphy. I chose the “word of the day” theme for the challenge using dictionary.com app as my word reference. For me it’s heating two birds with one stone.
First, lettering practice. In this challenge I will be using “The Scallion” typeface which I featured last Monday as my typeface crush. I used it as a style reference because I love the playful yet elegant look of the calligraphy style of this font. I was lucky to get it free at Creative Market. I will master this style before moving on to other typeface.
Second, enriching my vocabulary. I heard that part of President Duterte’s punishment when he was in school is to memorize difficult words, thus, if you notice he used jargon words on his speeches. So I guess that made me decide or I was inspired to do the same. It’s embarrassing to admit that my English is of Elementary level but I know I’m not old enough not learning new things ‘coz I believe learning has no age limit.
Anyways I’m still in the 4th day of lettering. Sometimes it’s a struggle to fit in the lettering practice and documentation of this challenge especially that there are days that I worked double shift. So for me writing one word each day is not hard to accomplish.
So if you want to join with me, please use #letterthewordoftheday and I will gladly feature you in my IG account.
