Stop motion is a lot of fun and easier than you might think. You just need to know the concept of it, technique and a bit of practice to learn stop motion animation.
In the sea of social media posts you need to stand out if your goal is to attract people and sponsors. So you have to create content that are unique and entertaining to your target market.
For example in the niche of illustrations we know that there are millions of illustrations delivered in social media feeds every hour. In order to catch peoples attention, other that regular posting, you must have a great quality of your photo that is properly staged. Another way is to create a story by using the technique of stop motion or animation; make your illustrations move just like this one from Jamie Bartlett IG Account.
Another IG account that I am so fond of is @allthatisshe. I love her, her family and the concepts that she put on her Intagram posts including stop motions.
I know it’s entertaining to watch. But you may think it might be difficult to make one. Well I’d say it requires time, patience and meticulousness to do this but if you really want to know the secret of making stop motion then learn from these three teachers that I highly recommend but first we’ll define what is stop motion.
What is Stop Motion?
From Wikipedia: Stop motion (hyphenated stop-motion when used as an adjective) is an animation technique that physically manipulates an object so that it appears to move on its own. The object is moved in small increments between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played as a fast sequence.
That’s why I said it requires time and meticulousness because you have to capture numbers of photos and move your subject in a certain pattern depending on your planned output.
And to make the series of photos into movie you can use different programs like iMovie of Macbooks or Movie Maker for Windows. You can also use Photoshop or an App called Stop Motion to do this.
Okay I may sound a bit techie and difficult to make but actually no. It is not as as hard as you think when you learn the techniques from the classes I enrolled in Skillshare.
Learn Stop Motion Animation from these Three Skillshare Classes
Skillshare is my go-to website in terms of learning and enhancing skills. I highly recommend it not because I am an affiliate of it, but because it has tons of classes where you can learn and grow in different areas such as: art, craft, cooking, coding, personality development, photography and many more in a very reasonable price. As of this writing Skillshare offers two free months of premium classes. And it is honestly a steal of a deal.
So if you are not a member yet, I suggest to register and enjoy the classes while its free including these three stop motion classes. You’ll learn from top teachers the techniques making stop motion easier than you think.
1. Turn Your Illustrations into Real Life Objects with a Magic of Stop Motion by Mariya Popandopulo
If you want your illustrations come to life just like magic then this class is definitely worth to watch and learn. It won’t take your time much because it’s only 36 minutes long video. Short but you will learn a lot from planning, setup of objects, drawing the illustrations, editing pictures to making video.
My first stop motion is using the technique I learned from this class. I published it in my Instagram in partnership with USB Memory Direct. It is not perfect and obviously made by an amateur but it certainly attracts people.
2. Mobile Stop Motion by Jamie Bartlett
This class is a big thumbs up for me. Jamie clearly delivers her lesson clearly and share the very basics of stop motion and the right equipment to use. She simplifies everything about making stop motion using a free app that I wish I knew before making my first stop motion
3. Animated Illustrations by Jamie Bartlett
Another class of Jamie Bartlett. She is really an awesome teacher no wonder why she earned the Top Teacher badge in Skillshare.
If you want to add effects on your illustrations, then this class is perfect. Using Photoshop, Jamie teaches how to make your illustration move using different techniques. It requires basic knowledge in Photoshop though but you can still follow her instruction pretty easily.
That’s it! Three classes from two different instructors. You’ll only need them to learn the basics of stop motion animation. And with a little practice in no time you’ll be a pro.
