Materials You’ll Need:
To create this fake sundae ornament, you’ll need the following supplies:
✅ Plastic glass (I got mine at the Dollar Store)
✅ Polyurethane (or regular craft glue)
✅ Insulating spray foam
✅ Spackling
✅ Piping bag and icing tip
✅ Acrylic paint (for the drizzle effect)
✅ Glitter and beads (for decoration)
✅ Paper straw

Step 1: Prepare the Base
Start by grabbing a plastic glass. I found a cute one at the Dollar Store, but any small plastic cup or glass will work.
First, pour some polyurethane into the glass. Swirl it around to coat the inside evenly, making sure to cover all the sides. Once you’ve coated the inside, pour out the excess polyurethane. While it’s still wet, sprinkle glitter all over the inside of the glass. This will create a sparkly, festive look and help the glitter stick to the sides.
If you don’t have polyurethane, don’t worry! You can use regular craft glue instead. Just brush it on the inside of the glass, sprinkle the glitter, and let it dry.
Step 2: Let It Dry
Let the polyurethane or glue dry completely before moving on to the next step. This usually takes a few hours, but you can speed up the process with a hairdryer if you’re in a hurry.
Step 3: Create the Sundae Filling
Once the glass is dry, it’s time to create the “sundae filling.” For this, I’m using insulating spray foam. It’s perfect for giving the sundae a fluffy, whipped texture.
Spray the foam directly into the glass, filling it to the top. Keep in mind that the foam will expand as it dries, so don’t overfill it.

Let the spray foam dry completely. This might take a few hours, depending on the brand you use.
Step 4: Add the “Icing”
Once the foam is dry, it’s time to make the icing! For this, I’m using spackling and a piping bag with an icing tip.
Fill the piping bag with spackling and carefully pipe it over the dried foam, just like you would with real whipped cream. You can swirl it to give it that classic sundae topping look.
Spackling works great for this because it holds its shape and dries with a smooth, realistic texture. You can find it at any hardware store or on Amazon.
Step 5: Decorate!
Now for the fun part—decorating!
To create the drizzle effect, I’m using acrylic paint. Just drizzle the paint over the “icing” and let it drip down naturally. You can choose any color you like—red, pink, chocolate brown, or even pastel shades for a more whimsical look.
Next, sprinkle glitter and small beads over the top to mimic candy sprinkles. This will make your sundae ornament pop and give it that playful Candyland vibe.
Finally, add a straw! I’m using a simple paper straw that I’ve cut down to size. Stick it into the top of the sundae at an angle for a cute finishing touch.
Step 6: Let It Dry and Display
Let your ornament dry completely. This may take a few hours, but once it’s dry, it’s ready to hang!
Attach a small hook or ribbon to the back or rim of the glass so you can hang it on your tree.
